This page is intended to help you get the best deal out of your education by helping you save the most money possible. It is also designed to help you save the most time possible by consolidating scholarships into one easy to access and navigate location. Poke around and email with any questions.
Scholarships are listed and categorized by school and/or by type. You may find the same scholarship listed under different categories. All scholarships are available to qualifying students. You do not necessarily have to be a nurse or even desire to be a nurse for some scholarships. However, most scholarships on this site are for nurses or those in the healthcare field.
Remember, most scholarships are awarded in the Spring and most do not open submission until October. This is not always the case and some are open and awarded year-round. Do your homework, shop around, and get some money!

Scholarship Search Engines/Sites
These scholarships are not necessarily nursing specific. Some are, some might be, some are not. Poke around and find something that works perfectly for you.
Scholarships.com – As the name implies, this site is all about scholarships. It is free, but it does require you to login with a Username and Password
Studentadvisor.com – Another great scholarship resource. As above, it is free, but requires you to create an account for access.
Scholarshipamerica.org – Scholarship America has some excellent scholarship opportunities and does not require you to create a user account to review or search for many of them.

Nursing Specific Scholarships
AfterCollege/AACN Scholarship – This is a $2,500 Scholarship that is awarded once a quarter for a total of $10,000. This Scholarship is designed for RN-to-BSN Students, MSN, or other Nursing Graduate students. The application deadlines are March 31, June 30, September 30, and December 31. One caveat is you must be enrolled in an AACN affiliated school. To see if your school is an AACN member, go here.
Hurst Review/AACN – This is another AACN Scholarship worth $2,500. There are two scholarships available and are awarded twice yearly. Application deadlines are January 15 and July 15. Go to the Hurst Review website, here, to apply. Check to see if your school is an AACN member school here.
AACN Nurse Faculty Scholarship – This Scholarship is only available to Minority Graduate Nurses who agree to teach in a school of nursing after graduation. The application deadline is May 1. To apply, go here.
CertifiedBackground.com/AACN – This AACN Scholarship sponsored by CertifiedBackground.com is for two $5,000 Scholarships awarded four times a year. Similar to AACN your nursing school must be associated with CertifiedBackground.com. View the .PDF of associated schools here. Application deadlines are January 31, April 30, July 31, and October 31. New Careers in Nursing – This is a huge Scholarship worth $10,000 and available to 400 applicants! However, this scholarship is only available to Accelerated BSN or Accelerated MSN students. It is also geared toward underrepresented groups and economically disadvantaged people. Please view this .pdf document for clarifying information. Non-Nursing Specific Scholarships
Dream Award – This scholarship is provided by Scholarship America, see the site listed above, and was started with an initial donation by Katie Couric. It is specifically for non-freshman. Scholarship amounts range from $5,000 to $15,000 are awarded annually. Submissions for school year 2014 are closed, but submissions for the 2015 school year will open in October. Want to know more? Kaplan University Scholarships
Kaplan University offers a whole host of scholarships. From scholarships designed and specifically for single-parents to military scholarships to traditional right out of High School Scholarships. According to Kaplan, their scholarships, not including outside scholarships, can lower the price of a degree by $12,750. That is a pretty substantial savings for scholarships from one source. If you are able to combine Kaplan Scholarships with other outside scholarships, you may be on your way to a very affordable education.
Specifically for those pursuing a nursing or healthcare degree, Kaplan University offers the College of Public Service Scholarships. These scholarships are for students who are currently employed and have at least 1 year working at a government or non-profit organization, or as a volunteer fire or emergency service worker. If you meet this minimum requirement, then check out the rest of the requirements here. Most of the scholarships are for $500 per term with a maximum of $4,500 per degree. The scholarship award is slightly less for graduate programs.
The Kaplan University/American Freedom Foundation Scholarship Program – In thanks to our military families, The Kaplan University/American Freedom Foundation Scholarship Program sponsored by Kaplan University and American Freedom Foundation provides partial and full scholarship awards to assist spouses and dependent children of U.S. service personnel who choose to enroll in applicable Kaplan University online associate’s or bachelor’s degree programs. (Nursing candidates will require additional eligibility verification). To be eligible, applicants must have received their high school diploma by the application deadline. Current and prior Kaplan University students are not eligible. See this page to apply or learn more. This year’s application deadline is October 3, 2014. There are 250 scholarships available.

Western Governors University Scholarships
If you are thinking about attending Western Governors University or you are currently enrolled, then you need to visit WGU’s Scholarship page. This is the general scholarship page, but WGU does offer specific Nursing scholarships. Check out the list below and find some great deals.
WGU Nurses Lead the Way Scholarship – A $500 (5 available) Scholarship for Nurses and currently enrolled Western Governors University students. Application deadline is April 14, 2014. However, this scholarship will most likely be available next year as well.
WGU Community College Partner Scholarship – A $2,000 Scholarship available to new students from a community college partner school. This scholarship is available to all Nursing students, but the application deadline is 60 days after enrollment. If you are on the ball and think you might complete the online RN to BSN in 6 months, then this one scholarship can pay for over half your costs! See the Scholarship and list of schools here.
WGU Institutional Partners Fund – A $2,000 Scholarship available to new students that work for a company that is affiliated with WGU. See the list here and find out if you qualify.
WGU Healthcare Partners Fund – Similar to the scholarship above, this $2,000 Scholarship is available to new students that work for a healthcare company that is affiliated with WGU. Go here.

Finally, Western Governors University offers an awesome Scholarship search tool. This tool allows you to input your own criteria and variables and gives you a more personalized list of potential scholarships. This is not an exact science and some of the scholarships may not actually be right for you. But for the motivated scholarship searcher, this is an excellent resource. Try the Scholarship Search Tool
